How did we begin…

Becks Nolan: Business Owner of Oak Barrel Blooms

It all started from an idea as they always do!

One day i went to purchase some oak barrel planters and filled them with an assortment of plants/trees. 2 had Acers in, one was full of tulips. I got lots of comments from friends asking me where i had bought them from. It was then the thought of selling them popped into my head. I made a contact and sourced some great oak whisky barrels, ready for the business launch in 2026.

I was off!

I’ve always loved gardening, this is something my father taught me, he created 2 beautiful gardens in our 2 family homes..

When I was in my 20s i moved to Bristol and worked in a florists for while part time, and would also help my father with his garden designs. What with me being a Taurus star sign (if you’re into that stuff us bulls love nature and being outdoors) it was only natural that i would eventually fall into the fabulous world of flowers at some point!

I haven’t always been doing this though, for the last 27 years i was a hairstylist.

By the time i was 26 i had managed a small hair salon in my home town of Hereford for 5 years. I then moved to London Primrose Hill for 2 years. There, i worked in a hair salon full time. I then moved to Bristol for 8 years, there i created an onsite hair salon at the BBC on Whiteladies Road and the Bristol Universities Halls of Residence - Hiatt Baker, where i worked at both part time.

In between juggling all those plates i worked weekends as a bridal hairstylist and worked on editorial shoots and at vintage events like Goodwood Revival.

I then met my husband…

He was in St Neots so i moved again… i’m now 36 a whole decade later! I continue with hairdressing…

Fast forward another decade and 1 year, i’m now 47, we’ve got a young son who’s 7, and i’m at this point in my life where i’m ready for something new!

Following my heart and the love of gardening and styling, i put them together and created Oak Barrel Blooms, the rest as they say, is history :-)

If you’ve read this far, thanks lol!

I hope to meet with you soon and we can discuss all things plants and planters over a nice cup of tea!
